Frammento da una cronaca di lunedì 15 febbraio 1731, racconta l'effetto magico presentato da [Isaac] Fawkes agli ambasciatori di Algeri: il mago fece fiorire un albero di mele, un secolo prima che Robert-Houdin presentasse lo stesso effetto magico con un albero di arance. Qui il testo: "The Algerine embassadors went to see Mr. Fawkes, who, at their request, shew'd them a prospect of Algier, and rais'd up an apple-tree with bore ripe apples in less than a minute's time, which most of the company tasted of."
