In the Variétés column Martan proposes an explanation of the invisible woman shown in the place Germain-l'Auxerrois, at the corner of rue des Prêtres, allée du buraliste, on the third floor. Since the cupboard in the wall and the mouthpiece supposedly running from the chest to the wall, imagined by the authors of the note published in several papers (Villemeureux and Auvray), have not been found, Martan argues that the glass chest, in which one hears breathing and feels breath, really contains a very small person, though not a true dwarf as members of the Institut national and the editor of the Gazette de France had supposed, hidden from sight by the glass panes as in the "magic spyglass" that conceals part of an arm in its elbow. He also reports that an amateur has just lost 600 livres by betting that the invisible woman was hidden in the attic. Full transcription and Italian translation.
